Micropelt GmbH, Freiburg, Germany, offers the TE-Power NODE wireless sensor system that is powered using the company's built-in chip thermogenerator. The thermogenerator takes a few degrees of temperature differential and harvests the thermal energy to operate the wireless sensor node. The node consists of an aluminum baseplate that carries up to 2 thermogenerators, allowing you to scale the energy supply for the designated application. An aluminum heat spreader on top of the thermogenerators is stabilized and insulated by a PCB, which holds receptacles for plug-on modules. A DC/DC converter converts the incoming thermovoltage into a battery-like 2.4 V and charges a 100 µF capacitor. The node transmits information to a PC via a standard eZ430-RF2500 USB receiver module from TI.
