Suited for embedded machine design applications, the EMC 4Z from Athena Controls Inc., Plymouth Meeting, PA, is a 4.5 by 7 in. control board with the control capabilities of 4 single-loop controllers. Its four 16-bit analog inputs can accept standard process types (4–20 mA or 1–10 VDC); low-level sensors such as thermocouples, RTDs, and thermistors; or smart sensors which require excitation voltages of 5, 10, or 15 VDC. A 14 MIPS processor handles the four PID control zones and two encoder/counter inputs. The board has 256 KB of Flash and 8 KB of RAM so you can add additional software capabilities.
