Telvent Begins Landmark Smart Metering Pilot

MADRID, Spain (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Telvent (Nasdaq:TLVT), the IT Company for a sustainable and secure world, announced that it was recently awarded a landmark automated metering infrastructure (AMI) pilot project with a major U.S. utility. The goal of the pilot is to test Telvent's advanced integrated smart metering solution, Titanium, as part of an open architecture program for bi-directional communications with meters. This pilot will demonstrate Titanium's ability to seamlessly integrate and manage meters with minimal effort, streamlining the implementation of large AMI deployments.

According to Larry Stack, CEO of Telvent Energy, "This pilot, originally developed to meet European metering requirements, represents a key milestone for Titanium in North America. Titanium is a product designed to help utilities implement an open architecture smart metering system, supporting a number of communication protocols, and ultimately, even a variety of meter types. We are excited to test Titanium with a major U.S. utility, and the potential business value to be delivered, as it will accelerate smart metering for Telvent in North America."

Titanium is one foundational piece of Telvent's smart grid solution (SGS) suite that, in addition to the smart metering solution, includes a comprehensive set of software components and integration frameworks designed to help electric utilities implement the network of the future. The smart operating solution is based on open SCADA, outage management system (OMS), distribution management system (DMS), and geographic information system (GIS) technology, integrated in an open, standard way to bring added value to the intelligent network. The Smart Network Solution includes substation and line remote terminal units (RTUs), intelligent electric devices (IEDs), and the substation integration experience to automate control from the substation to the end customer. This unique combination of real-time products, integration skill and experience, contribute to Telvent's positioning as a market leader in Smart Grid Solutions.
