The STS-WiFi wireless structural testing system from Bridge Diagnostics Inc., Boulder, CO, is portable, lightweight, and efficient and lets you instrument and test short- to medium-span bridges in <1 day with a crew of 2. Multiple 4-channel nodes are mounted on the structure near the gauge locations and transmit data over standard 802.11b/g WiFi to the wireless STS base station which, in turn, communicates wirelessly with your PC. Signal range is several hundred feet and can be extended with additional base stations. You can use the company's Intelliducer strain transducers as well as LVDTs, load cells, accelerometers, and foil strain gauges. WinSTS testing software lets you view the response data in real time, monitor signal strength, and control power consumption.
