Square D Awarded Advanced Metering Orders

Palatine, IL -- Schneider Electric announced that its Square D Co. was competitively awarded multiple task orders with Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) for advanced metering projects under Contract N62583-08-D-0137 as part of the Navy's Advanced Metering Infrastructure Program. Three task order awards are for the Navy Region Northwest project, with a total value of $31.1 million. Another task order award is for the Marine Corp Base Camp Smedley D. Butler project and is valued at $2.6 million. The work will include designing, procurement, installation, testing, and sustaining of building-level, advanced metering solutions in support of the Energy Policy Act of 2005 and the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007. The projects will assist the Navy and Marine Corps in cost-effectively allocating and managing energy resources.

"Schneider Electric, as a global solutions company, is well-qualified to provide advanced metering solutions in support of NAVFAC as we have complete and dedicated groups focused solely on the Federal Government and the Department of Defense—meaning we know the unique challenges being faced by these groups," said Dan Vesey, National Manager for the Department of Defense, Schneider Electric. "In addition, Schneider Electric offers a full portfolio of metering and monitoring components, worldwide expertise, as well as the size to support and manage multiple projects at once."

The Navy Region Northwest project is expected to be completed on or before July 2011, and includes three main sites: Naval Station Everett, Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, and Naval Base Kitsap. The metering system, featuring Square D PowerLogic ION 8600 advanced meters, will assist the Navy in reaching energy reduction goals as mandated in the Energy Policy Act of 2005 and the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007.

The Marine Corp Base Camp Smedley D. Butler project in Okinawa, Japan, is expected to be completed on or before December 2011. At this installation, PowerLogic ION 7550 meters and ION enterprise energy management software will be used to monitor electricity consumption.

"These advanced meters will not only meet current NAVFAC needs but also future expansion needs, including capabilities for smart grid technologies," adds Vesey. "Meters such as the ION 8600 and ION 7550 can be programmed at the meter level to help proactively manage energy usage and provide the tools to deliver fast and quantifiable return on investment by helping to manage the quality and cost of energy."
