SportsLabs Uses Location Technology to Enhance College Football Playoff National Championship

BOULDER, CO – SportsLabs announces location and beacon technology for the official College Football Playoff (CFP) mobile and tablet application, CFP Gameday. Fans attending the Playoff Semifinals at the Capital One Orange Bowl and Goodyear Cotton Bowl and in Arizona for the College Football Playoff National Championship, will have access to the app which will deliver additional, relevant content for their on-site experience. For the CFP, the app provides valuable data about attendees in order to create additional value for sponsors and fans.

"Location-based technologies are delivering real-time, contextually relevant information to consumers, and actionable consumer data back to brands across all industries; the business of sports should be no different," said John Burris, president of SportsLabs. "SportsLabs and the College Football Playoff are bringing today's best mobile technologies to sports on one of the world's biggest stages."

Venues, events and other locations surrounding the national championship game and the Orange and Cotton Bowl playoff semifinal games will incorporate geofences and beacons. The technology will enable the CFP to deliver contextual, location-specific messages and offers, while also providing digital activation opportunities for sponsors.

During the national championship game weekend in Arizona, (Fri., Jan 8 through Mon., Jan 11, 2016), fans will be greeted with a message from the app upon arrival in the city. Throughout the weekend, the CFP app will keep fans updated with the latest news surrounding Playoff Fan Central events and information designed to help with the logistics of navigating the weekend. Championship events like Playoff Fan Central and AT&T Playoff Playlist Live! will make additional use of beacons to drive attendee behavior and fan engagement.

The College Football Playoff is continuously looking for ways to enhance the fan's experience at the games," said CFP Executive Director Bill Hancock. "SportsLabs, our official digital partner, delivers technology solutions to inform and engage fans at the CFP events. We expect great fan feedback on this year's activities."
