The LoadSense intelligent load sensor from Saelig Co. Inc., Pittsford, NY, contains an onboard single-chip computer for recording, analyzing, and archiving readings and wireless communications to transfer data in real time to a host computer. The sensor can be integrated with a crane hook, fork lift, or other handling device for feedback of loading events. The LoadSense system combines an intelligent load sensor, a handheld display, and a receiver. The strain-gauge-based load sensor has a standard calibration range of 1–10 tonnes and automatically begins transmitting data when used. The transmitter operates at 2.4 GHz. Applications include materials handling and warehouse operations, raising nuclear fuel rods, monitoring window cleaning cradles on high-rise buildings, and winching and weighing building materials.
