Designed for consumer designs, the VCNL4040 does double duty as a proximity and ambient light sensor. Featuring Filtron technology, it measures 4 mm x 2 mm x 1.1 mm and packs an IR emitter, photo detectors for proximity and ambient light, a signal processing IC, and a 16-bit ADC. The three-in-one sensor provides an interrupt function, I²C bus, and promises to simplify window and sensor placement in a wide variety of consumer applications. Other features include an accuracy of ±10 %, detection from 0.01 lx to 5.2 klx, fluorescent light flicker immunity, and an operating temperature from -40°C to +85°C.
