Sensicast Announces SensiNet Support for SNMP

BOSTON, MA and SCOTTSDALE, AZ /Marketwire/ -- Sensicast Systems announced that its SensiNet product line of turnkey wireless sensor network systems (WSNs) now support the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP).

Recognized as a wireless sensor innovator by top analysts (such as Frost & Sullivan, who honored it as 2007 "Wireless Sensor Company of the Year"), Sensicast builds wireless sensor networks that help control essential environmental and process conditions (through real-time monitoring of temperature, humidity, pressure, air flow, power consumption, and other key data) in industrial and commercial facilities worldwide. Now, through SensiNet's support of SNMP, network and IT managers can conveniently monitor the environmental conditions of their data center from the same dashboard they use to ensure the integrity of their network servers.

Although Sensicast wireless systems have always enabled transparent connectivity with monitoring and control systems that support widely used industrial protocols and standards (e.g., Modbus, TCP, ODBC, OPC, and Web Services—SOAP, http, https, and XML), added support for SNMP allows enterprises that operate SensiNet WSNs to use the system to better monitor the conditions of facilities; facilities support systems, such as HVAC and energy management; and the server and storage equipment itself.

Through Sensicast's SensiNet WSNs, data captured by Sensicast Smart Sensors, installed at measurement points throughout a facility's data center, can now be passed through SensiNet's wireless mesh network into SNMP-compatible network management software, such as HP OpenView and IBM Tivoli. This provides network administrators with improved knowledge and more detailed information about the conditions of their networks. Using real-time or historic data collected by SensiNet, administrators can respond more quickly, with better and more exact information about the nature and location of the problem.

As a comprehensive end-to-end wireless sensor solution, SensiNet can reduce energy usage while increasing energy efficiency and savings, safeguard hardware warranties, and avoid data center downtime. SensiNet integrates Sensicast-built hardware and software to seamlessly monitor environmental conditions in data centers. It ensures maximum system reliability by helping to maintain a stable environment, free of dangerous fluctuations, which lead to equipment and system failures and inefficiencies.

SensiNet for Remote Monitoring and Networking and On-Site Power
Deployed in hundreds of facilities around the world, SensiNet wireless networks capture relevant information and integrate the information into automated process and systems controls. Through its support for Web-based standards and interfaces, including SensiNet Services, Sensicast's customers gain secure remote access to real-time measurements from any Internet-enabled device (e.g., computers, laptops, PDAs, and handheld devices), where users can receive just-in-time alarms and alerts, customizable data analysis, and reports. Furthermore, SensiNet delivers automatic, real-time M2M connectivity between SensiNet and popular software systems (e.g. industrial control, building automation, database-driven applications, and SCADA systems).

"Beyond the value that SensiNet provides for remote monitoring and industrial-class wireless networking, SensiNet systems are being increasingly deployed by sustainable enterprises operating off-grid renewable energy systems and looking to manage the power consumption of their operations in order to balance it with renewable energy systems like PV solar," said Gary Ambrosino, CEO of Sensicast.
