Sense Develops Biometrics Port Security System

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. /BUSINESS WIRE/ --Sense Holdings, Inc., a developer of next-generation biometric and explosive detection security technologies for government and commercial security markets, has announced the completion of a market-ready biometrics-based platform to provide advanced security for the cruise vessel and maritime cargo shipping industries.

Sense’s newly announced product line, the CheckPrint Cruisetracker Vessel Access System (CPVAS), was designed to fill a critical gap in homeland and port operations security in the maritime cruise and cargo industry, said CEO Dore Perler. The CPVAS system is based on the company’s proprietary technologies in the field of biometrics security.

CheckPrint was designed with input from security experts at leading cruise and shipping industry companies. It is a novel merger of new and proven technologies into a single security system that combines cutting-edge fingerprint biometrics with customizable computer databases to track authorized vendors or others on vessels and in overall shipping environments.

“Homeland security authorities and industry experts have repeatedly stressed that the nation’s ports are among the weakest links in domestic security,” said Perler. “Our new CheckPrint port security system was specifically created to address the security needs of the ports and maritime industries. CPVAS is unique in the marketplace, and was created to be a flexible and robust application platform that can be customized effectively for a wide variety of customers with large job-site access needs and other homeland security requirements.”

The CPVAS products will be marketed to major cargo and cruise line companies, such as Royal Caribbean, Carnival Cruise Lines, Disney Cruise Line, Holland America, Princess Cruises, and others.

CPVAS is a real-time access control security product. The proprietary solution integrates photographic and fingerprinting identification technologies with computer database solutions to enable vessel personnel or other security personnel to track individuals moving through ports.

Sense is developing a portfolio of technologies and products that focus on the homeland security market, including biometric solutions, microsensor identification, and RFID asset tracking. It is also developing a line of next-generation handheld explosive- and chemical-detection devices based on proprietary micro electro-mechanical sensors (MEMS), tiny “sniffer” chips that can be customized to detect a range of explosives, chemical and biological threats, narcotics, or other substances. The company is developing these products for use in airports and other venues.

The CPVAS system is based on an intranet browser that allows internal users access on site or remotely via a web browser application. Sophisticated, multilayered security applications provide the hierarchy of authorization processes. In addition, the system is designed to be fully integrated with existing security systems. CPVAS also keeps track of all of the information and can generate printed security reports or others for transmission electronically or via fax. CPVAS is compatible with Windows 2000 or higher and MS SQL Server databases. All authorization requests are routed via the customers’ current TCP/IP network, which also significantly reduces operation costs.
