SenGenuity Offers End-to-End Wireless Temperature-Sensing System

MUNICH, Germany /PRNewswire/ -- SenGenuity, the sensors division of Vectron International, announced that it will offer an end-to-end wireless temperature sensing solution, which includes surface acoustic wave (SAW)–based passive temperature sensors produced by SenGenuity/Vectron, and a wireless interrogation system based on technology licensed from its partner, Transense Technologies. The TFSS433D SAW temperature sensing system will allow for remote sensing of temperature without the need to run power or communication wires between the sensor and the data interrogator. As an extension of the existing SenGenuity/Transense relationship, the two companies will optimize Transense's proprietary wireless interrogation technology for this application environment.

The TFSS433D SAW temperature sensor is a passive, batteryless 433.786 MHz one-port SAW resonator structure, specifically designed to have a linear frequency versus temperature characteristic. With a temperature coefficient of frequency of 16.2 ppm/°C (~7028 Hz/°C), it is operable from 0°C to 120°C and has an unloaded Q of 8000. It is a low-loss structure (2.5 dB max) and is designed for a 50 ohm system.

"At SenGenuity, we are committed to providing our customers with leading-edge technologies and products. Our latest collaboration with Transense affords OEMs a complete passive and wireless temperature-sensing solution in a wide range of application environments," said Tom Cunneen, Vice President and General Manager, SenGenuity. "The TFSS433D is a highly accurate batteryless temperature sensor that enables OEMs to integrate precision wireless temperature measurement within their product platforms and provide highly differentiated advanced sensing solutions across a multitude of applications and markets."

SenGenuity's TFSS433D works within the ISM 43.92 MHz for the defined operating temperature range. The TFSS433D sensor is designed to provide instantaneous wireless temperature measurements for embedded real-time, in-line environments requiring high resolution and accuracy. The temperature sensor uses robust and reliable semiconductor technology packaged in a standard tape and reel format. The TFSS433D demonstrates exceptional stability characteristics, passing DIN IEC 68 T2-27 specifications for shock rating and screening according to DIN IEC 68 T2-6 standards for vibration rating. Temperature-stability characteristics are assured by DIN IEC 68 Part 2 - 14 Test N standards. Coupled with Transense's wireless interrogation technology, the sensor provides a continuous audit trail for process-monitoring markets to control operating costs and maintain quality standards.

"Transense is delighted to be working with SenGenuity in bringing additional sensor capabilities and functionalities to the wireless temperature-sensing market," said Graham Storey, Commercial Director, Transense Technologies. "A key component of our new business strategy is to seek additional routes to market for our technology, in order to gain greater control over our revenue streams. We believe this latest development offers near term opportunities in a variety of high-value markets within the industrial sector. This agreement represents an entirely new revenue source within our portfolio, leveraging existing investment from our research and development program."
