Savari Working With Delphi

ANN ARBOR, MI -- (Marketwire) -- Savari, a developer of Dedicated Short Range Communications (DSRC)-based automotive safety technologies, is working with Delphi Automotive to provide its technology for everyday cars. Among other Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) products, Savari's Vehicle Awareness Devices (VAD) and Road Side Equipment (RSE) are in use by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) and the University of Michigan Transport Research Institute (UMTRI) for the largest connected vehicle safety pilot ever conducted.

The year-long pilot, announced on August 21 at a news event in Ann Arbor, involves equipping 2800 cars, buses and trucks in the Ann Arbor, MI, area and utilizing roadside equipment installed in the city to test potential benefits of crash avoidance technologies to reduce accidents, injuries and fatalities. Results from the study will be used by the DOT to determine how regulatory agencies may proceed on implementing ITS systems to improve transportation safety.

Delphi, a leading Tier 1 supplier of automotive systems and components, has applied its expertise in vehicle integration to assist Savari in placing its VADs into passenger vehicles for the UMTRI Safety Pilot deployment. This effort paves the way for Delphi to work with automotive companies to further customize and integrate the safety hardware and related applications for the future.

"Savari has been at the forefront of the connected vehicle safety space," said Ravi Puvvala, CEO, Savari Inc. "Our products are broadly recognized by automotive manufacturers as well as the U.S. Department of Transportation. Successful adoption of such future technologies into passenger cars can be made possible by fully capable suppliers who can provide the necessary vehicle integration. We are extremely pleased to have one of the largest automotive component suppliers, Delphi, working with us in this endeavor."

Dr. Andrew Brown Jr., vice president and chief technologist at Delphi Automotive, represented Delphi at the Tuesday kickoff. He said, "Vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure communication are key to achieving Delphi's vision of zero fatalities, zero accidents and zero injuries on the world's roadways. Delphi has been involved in the research and development of advanced safety technologies for many years and we expect this pilot to show the possibilities offered by these systems. Participation in this pilot is a great opportunity to demonstrate how advanced development can provide solutions to transportation safety concerns everywhere."
