The RT8A IR thermometer from Land Instruments Intl., Infrared Temperature Measurement, Dronfield, U.K., is designed to be integrated directly into a 2-wire 4–20 mA current loop for measuring, monitoring, and control. Four models are available, covering operating temperatures from 0°C–500°C. Response time is adjustable from 1–10 s, accuracy is within <0.5% of span, and drift with change in ambient temperature is ±1.5°C/10°C. The thermometers have an IP65/NEMA 4X rated housing. Applications include noncontact temperature measurement of moving materials, webs, or inaccessible objects in hostile production environments.
