Reflective Optical Sensor Saves Space and Lowers Costs

Groomed for smart home, industrial, and office applications, the VCNT2020 reflective optical sensor combines an infrared emitter, silicon phototransistor detector, and daylight-blocking filter in a 2.5 mm by 2.0 mm x 0.8 mm surface-mount package. The sensor's analog output signal triggers via the detection of reflected infrared light from a nearby object. A daylight-blocking filter suppresses ambient light, increasing the signal-to-noise ratio. The device's QFN package features wettable flanks to enable optical inspection of the solder joints. Detection range is from 0.2 mm to 2.5 mm, emitter wavelength is 940 nm, and typical output current is 1.6 mA. Pricing starts at $0.50 each/5,000.
