Real-Time Physiological Patient Data Company Debuts

ABINGDON, U.K. -- Isansys Lifecare Ltd., the single-source provider of complete real-time physiological patient data acquisition systems and services, announces its official debut as a company. The new business, which will focus on providing continuous, real-time patient data to healthcare professionals using the Isansys Lifecare Platform is being headed by Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder Keith Errey, the high-profile former CEO and Co-Founder of wireless body monitoring technology innovators Toumaz. The privately-funded company's business operations and world-class engineering team are based at Milton Park, Abingdon, U.K.

Isansys Lifecare has been created to harness the very best technologies and practices in the wireless healthcare space to provide real-time, continuous, and high quality physiological data that meets the complete technical, clinical and regulatory needs of clinicians and other healthcare professionals. Isansys was formed in June 2010 by Keith Errey and Rebecca Weir, both former Toumaz executives who bring extensive industry knowledge and unrivalled expertise in wireless healthcare technologies and devices, end-to-end monitoring systems, clinical trials, regulatory affairs and business operations.

Keith Errey was the Co-Founder and CEO of Toumaz, the AIM-listed spin-out of Imperial College London that pioneered the "digital plaster" now being commercialized for wireless body monitoring applications. The founders' collective experience uniquely positions Isansys to deliver best-in-class, patient data systems and services from a single-source—thus reducing cost and complexity for users and facilitating every stage of project lifecycle, from initial demonstrative clinical studies to full-scale system implementations. Key application areas include patient monitoring in hospitals, clinics, care facilities, and at home.

Isansys systems comprise a complete end-to-end service to capture and collect physiological data (typically vital signs) continuously and in real-time, and offer a high security data store where an individual's data can be held in anonymized and encrypted form from where it is delivered to authorized care professionals. Isansys systems are based on the Isansys Lifecare Platform—an intelligent, Web-based, high integrity framework that, in addition to the secure server, utilizes wired and wireless data channels, network gateways and very small, low profile wireless body-worn monitors that continuously, remotely, and almost invisibly capture and locally interpret vital sign and other physiological data. The Isansys Lifecare platform incorporates the most advanced data capture technologies, the foremost of which is the Isansys-developed LifeTouch monitor, an unobtrusive body-worn device, with intelligent data processing algorithms that enable the collection of new and continuous physiological information in usable, clinical-grade formats. Isansys works with commercial partners to provide solutions and services that utilise this valuable 'life data' for key health and wellbeing improvement and beneficial feedback to patients, clients and customers.

Commenting on the company's formal launch, CEO Keith Errey said: "We are hugely excited to be launching Isansys at what is a pivotal time for healthcare professionals and organisations looking to benefit from the well-documented need of such systems to improve patient outcomes and reduce the number of adverse events, while simultaneously reducing the overall costs of healthcare. As the clinical and political recognition of the need for significantly improved patient monitoring has gathered pace, we recognised the massive opportunity that is open to a single-source provider that can navigate the technology landscape and the regulatory framework. In this way we help organisations cost-effectively explore the potential of these new data systems and services in their own environment and according to their own specific needs." He continues: "The lifecare industry is growing fast, with many companies now offering good individual technologies such as wireless sensors, low-power connectivity units, back-end software and apps. However, the challenge is to put it together and provide the clinical and professional care community with the new information that can be gained from continuous monitoring of all patients. This enables them to spend more time in caring for those patients without involvement in the hassles and complexities of the technology and the regulatory burdens. By offering an all-encompassing service solution, Isansys is able to provide primary carers, hospitals, clinics and care-at-home organisations with rapid access to this data and almost immediate benefits for patients and healthcare payers."

With customer trials and pilot deployments already underway and planned, Isansys will shortly be announcing results from a key European clinical trial based on the Isansys Lifecare Platform. Future announcements will also be made highlighting Isansys's key strategic partnerships.

About Isansys Lifecare
Isansys Lifecare is the easy, fast and secure way to new physiological information and clinical insights for better care and improved patient safety.

We work with leading healthcare professionals, institutes and policy organizations operating in a wide range of healthcare settings, who want to employ new patient monitoring technologies and methods to improve patient outcomes and reduce costs. With comprehensive industry knowledge and the essential technical, clinical and regulatory expertise, Isansys is able to manage the entire process and provide a complete service, focusing on:

  • enhancing the relationship between patient and physician
  • providing a complete end-to-end system—the Isansys Lifecare Platform—to continuously and wirelessly capture, collect, interpret and securely store vital sign and other physiological patient data. An inherent part of our Platform is a dedicated, world-class team of engineers, mathematicians, physiologists and clinicians.
  • offering secure, authorized access to this data on any remote device including desktop, laptop or tablet computer or smart phone.
  • generating clinically validated and relevant information in simple usable formats, not columns of numbers or multiple confusing charts. Where appropriate or required, this data is integrated into the clients' electronic health record system.
  • enabling clients to harness the Platform to generate the evidence base necessary to validate clinical and economic outcomes, from proof-of-concept studies and demonstration projects to full large scale system roll out and implementations

About Continuous Patient Physiological Monitoring
It is well documented that patients who deteriorate and require admission to critical care or who suffer cardiac arrest, or many other adverse conditions, have abnormalities that are detectable by physiological observations well in advance. Continuous (or nearly continuous) monitoring of multiple vital signs provides the fundamental input for improved patient outcomes and reduced overall costs. In the US alone, remote patient monitoring devices are forecast to reduce healthcare costs by nearly $200 billion during the next 25 years, if more widely used by patients with certain chronic diseases (Source: Center for Technology and Aging Report, May 2010).
