The Flow Pulse pipe flow monitor from Pulsar Process Measurement Ltd., Malvern, U.K., monitors flow rate in fluid distribution systems, for pump efficiency checks, and in process plant or sewage-pumping stations. The device clamps onto the outside of a rigid plastic, SS, mild steel, or cast iron pipe and fires ultrasound through the pipe wall at 90° to the flow where it is reflected from bubbles, particles, and vortices. The refracted ultrasonic beam is received back into the unit where the data are analyzed using refracted spread spectrum analysis (RSSA) to derive flow information.
