Piezoelectric MEMS Mic Raises Performance Bars

Lauded as the first waterproof, shockproof, and dust- and particle-resistant MEMS microphone, the VM101 piezoelectric MEMS microphone achieves a typical SNR of 68 dB. This is said to be the highest acoustic-performance benchmark of any commercially available MEMS microphone. Viable applications include far-field audio, ambient noise cancellation, and audio zoom. Other features include a standard 3.35 mm x 2.50 mm package, a start-up time of less than 10 ms, and a typical power consumption of 150 mA. The VM101 is currently sampling with production volumes slated for Q4 2015.
