Photron’s High-Speed Cameras Chosen for Beijing Olympics

SAN DIEGO, CA -- Photron, Inc., a global high speed imaging systems and image analysis software manufacturer, has been chosen to provide the high speed cameras for the Beijing Summer Olympics 2008. The ultra-sensitive Fastcam SA1 camera, providing high speed, high-definition TV imagery to 5400 frames per second, will be integrated into a new imaging system, the SprintCam Live V2, manufactured by Photron's product partner, i-Movix of Mons, Belgium.

Photron's Fastcam SA1 cameras will be used as the key part of the SprintCam Live V2 system for recording various Olympic events and providing instant replay in extreme slow motion during the Summer Games. Photron cameras have been successfully deployed for a host of other sports and television broadcast events, such as the PGA tour with CBS, the Australian Tennis Open, and many other TV productions including the BBC's widely acclaimed Planet Earth series, CBS' CSI franchise and many Discovery Channel programs, including Future Weapons and the new hit, Time Warp.

The Fastcam SA1 is ideal for events such as the Olympic Games, because it records high speed action with precision imagery that is ready for instant replay in incredible, slow motion detail. Photron's slow motion imagers provide superior, true, 12-bit resolution for excellent color fidelity, great light sensitivity and microsecond global shuttering to freeze all the action. Capable of imaging up to 675,000 fps at reduced resolution, the Fastcam SA1 is DC-powered and features both high definition (HD) and RS-170 video outputs for easy integration.
