The GammaRAE II Responder from RAE Systems Inc., San Jose, CA, is a combined personal radiation detector and radiation dosimeter. Its cesium iodide sensor detects gamma radiation at extremely low levels and alerts first responders to the presence of radioactive material. The energy-compensated PIN diode provides high dose rate range coverage and accurate dosimetry measurements. The device is certified intrinsically safe for Class 1, Div. 1, Groups A, B, C, and D; is immersible (IP67); and has a concussion-proof case. It records readings and alarm information in a 30,000-point log, which can be downloaded via Bluetooth.
