The os3610 from Micron Optics Inc., Atlanta, GA, is a long-gauge, rugged, fiber Bragg grating (FBG) optical strain sensor optimized for surface-mount applications. The sensor can visually preset an ideal zero-strain point and provides stable, accurate, temperature-compensated readings for long-term strain measurements. Features include hard stops to protect the gauge from over-travel, steel tubes to seal out the environment and provide a low-resistance connection between end brackets, and an IP67 rating. Each sensor is tested in harsh, controlled laboratory conditions as well as in outdoor test beds.
