The IR5000 from General Monitors, Lake Forest, CA, is an open-path hydrocarbon gas detector with an expanded distance range of 130 m and designed to detect hydrocarbon gases in the 0–5000 ppm-meter and 0–5 LEL-meter ranges. The IR device can complement point gas detection or act as a component in a total system solution. It can cover a line of several potential leak sources, such as a row of valves or pumps, or can be used for fence-line monitoring, tank farms, gas spheres, or process areas inside refineries. Other features include fail-to-safe design and fault diagnostics.
