Omnify Software Delivers Holistic Product and Quality Management for LORD MicroStrain

TEWKSBURY, MA – Omnify Software unveils its latest Empower PLM application story featuring LORD Corporation MicroStrain Sensing Systems, a global leader in developing embedded sensing systems for aerospace and industrial markets. LORD MicroStrain has extended its Empower PLM environment to encompass Quality Management in order to create centralized product record and quality information management.

LORD MicroStrain has been using the Empower PLM system to manage their parts, Bill of Materials (BOMs) and engineering change/ECO information since 2007. The company realized positive business benefits and saw an opportunity to expand that success by leveraging the quality management capabilities of the system. The company did not previously have automated quality management in place, and without formal documentation of specific problems, it was time-consuming to identify and resolve issues.

“Based on our experience, it was a simple decision to adopt the Empower Quality module as our quality system," said Mike Jewett, senior quality engineer, LORD MicroStrain. "Not only did we eliminate the need to purchase a separate quality management product, we were able to get better visibility into quality issues across our organization by tracking all quality and product record information in one central system.”

The implemented quality control processes are now completely automated and meet ISO 9001:2008 requirements. The company administers detailed quality information within Empower PLM such as Non-Conforming Material Reports (NCMRs), Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPAs), and Return Material Authorizations (RMAs). In addition, the flexibility of Empower allowed the company to extend the system even further to automate their RMA process. This has proven to be very successful for both the production and customer support groups.

“Many customers, like LORD MicroStrain, purchase our system to address common and immediate needs around data centralization, BOM management and ECO/Change control,” stated Chuck Cimalore, chief technology officer, Omnify Software. “Once the system is deployed, customers can explore the extensive functionality and flexibility of Empower to automate and improve other areas of their business, such as Quality management. The ability to implement in phases facilitates a quick, initial adoption and allows the customer to expand the systems’ footprint based on their unique issues and with a deeper understanding of what the technology offers.”
