Novotechnik Membrane Potentiometers

Novotechnik U.S., Inc.

Novotechnik, Southborough, MA, has introduced LFP Series membrane potentiometers for applications that require a linear position sensing device in a narrow space or tight budget. These potentiometers provide some unique advantages besides a thin profile, which include linearity to ±0.3% and life of over 25 million cycles. These values set a standard for membrane potentiometers.

LFP Series operates using a screw-style pin attached to an application and runs across the membrane connecting a sensing track to a conductive ink track printed on a substrate through the applied pressure from the pin. As the pin moves across the membrane the resistance monitored at the attached connector plug changes corresponding to the position of the pin.

Other advantages are that the LFP Series is hermetically sealed against ingress of liquids and dust to IP67 and operates in temperatures up to 125°C. This component series is available in 10 standard lengths from 50 to 500 mm.

Applications include linear actuator systems used for car, truck and off-highway vehicle seats, window lifts, convertible car covers, electronically adjustable mirrors, robotics and solar panel positioning systems.
