Sensor Technology Ltd., Bicester, U.K., offers the TorqSense RWT330/340 Series of noncontact torque sensors, designed for space-limited applications. The sensors use tiny piezoceramic combs fixed to the transducer's shaft that distort in proportion to the instantaneous torque level. The combs create data signals that are transmitted via an RF coupling, which also supplies the power. The RWT330/340 Series sensors separate the sensing head from the control electronics to form a 2-part unit. Applications include measuring torque, speed, power, and position of rotating shafts of machine drives, drive shafts for pumps, fans, and mixers, and in the critical axes of test rigs.
