Electro Optical Components reports that smartGAS has developed NDIR modules that can detect extremely potent greenhouse gas SF6 (sulfur hexafluoride) insulating gas leaking from high voltage switches. SF6 gas is used because of its great insulating properties at high voltages. It is extremely harmful to the environment though. The NDIR modules can detect the SF6 gas at levels as low as 0.5ppm.
