For use as in-line filters to reduce broadband mains-borne radio interference, the WE-CMBNC current-compensated common mode chokes rely on nanocrystalline cores. According their maker, nanocrystalline cores exhibit 20-times more permeability than conventional cores using of MnZn and NiZn core materials. Therefore, mains-borne interference is reducible down into the low kHz frequency range, where NiZn and MnZn cores have very little attenuating effect.
