Multiple Lives Depend On Sensor Technology

Sensors are influencing the way we live. Right from our phones to the washing machines, we are fascinated by the sensor technology that makes it so smooth for us to work. Sensors find their way into the minutest details of our life whether we prefer it or not. This route has taken the sensor market to reach about $241 billion by 2022 according to a study conducted by Allied Market Research. The sensor technology is aggressively invading homes, healthcare, military, automotive, IT & telecommunication, and electronic segments. It is witnessing a steady rise in its revenue format.

The Wyss Institute at Harvard University is working on a wearable which comes with a soft sensor. Known as shieldex, the textile is created out of a mix of nylon and spandex and comes with a motion measuring sensor that makes it easy to wear. The team created a technology where a thin sheet of silicon can be sandwiched between two layers of conductive fabric. This fabric can detect movements and can comfortably stretch with the help of flexibility fibers and a technology called sensor capacitance. These soft futuristic wearables are also claimed to be injury friendly. This sophisticated of inflatable gear is currently getting tested to have it incorporated for NASA space suits.

New devices like EarlySense Live Sleep sensor is coming up in the market. The device is to be installed between the mattress and box spring. It monitors your breathing rate, rapid-eye movement, sleep cycles and durations, heart rate, daily sleep pattern and a pile of data that help you understand the way you sleep. Every new innovation comes with its own pros and cons. While a user might obsess over the figures of his sleep pattern, the device will also be useful in the healthcare sector.

According to recent developments, Vayyar is coming up with a car that will be installed with 3D sensors that can also save lives. The sensors installed can provide real-time information regarding the car’s interior activities. It can detect a driver’s attentiveness and can deploy an airbag in case of a crash. The technology can monitor and send information regarding survivors in the vehicle in case of a mishap. These sensors can override temperature and pressure extremes, various lighting conditions thereby working better than optical sensing hardware.
