The XI/ON modular I/O system from Eaton Corp., Pittsburgh, PA, is designed for decentralized signal processing and includes XN and XNE Series I/O modules. The XN Series provides modularity with hot-swappable plug-in modules while the XNE Series provides integrated I/O modules and bases in higher-density configurations. XN Series base modules connect field wiring for standard XI/ON modules and are available for 2-, 3-, and 4-wire connections as block or slice modules with spring-cage or screw terminals. XNE modules have push-in, spring-cage terminals only. Fieldbuses include EtherNet/IP, Modbus TCP, DeviceNet, Profibus DP, and CANopen.
