The EKI-1221D and EKI-1222D from Advantech Corp., Industrial Automation Group, Cincinnati, OH, are Modbus gateways with built-in Ethernet switches that provide transparent connectivity between Modbus (ASCII, RTU) serial devices and Ethernet-based Modbus/TCP equipment. Built-in Ethernet switches provide cascading/daisy-chain connectivity; cascading connections support Ethernet auto-bypass to prevent accidental power failure if one of the Modbus gateways unexpectedly shuts down. Gateways provide 921 kbaud speeds, support 16 TCP masters, 16 TCP slaves, and each serial port supports up to 31 RTU/ASCII slave devices. Features include built-in dual power inputs with one power-fail relay output, Windows utilities, and Web-based configuration.
