The USB4000 from Ocean Optics Inc., Dunedin, FL, is a miniature fiber-optic spectrometer responsive from 200–1100 nm and featuring onboard electronics and enhanced resolution. The 3648-element CCD array spectrometer features 16-bit ADC for auto nulling, EEPROM storage of calibration coefficients, 8 programmable GPIO, and an electronic shutter. SNR is 300:1; sensitivity is 130 photons/count at 400 nm; and optical resolution (FWHM) ranging is from 0.3–10.0 nm. The device interfaces to PCs, PLCs, and other embedded controllers via USB 2.0 or RS-232.
