Avago’s latest micro-integrated tunable laser assembly (Micro-ITLA) device, the AFCU-UITLAXX, is described as a high-performance, narrow-linewidth component for both the transmission and local oscillator laser in coherent dense wave division multiplexing (DWDM) systems. The device employs the company’s proprietary external cavity laser (ECL) technology and indium phosphide (InP) and silica-on-silicon chip technology and packaging platform. Measuring 20 mm x 40 mm x 7 mm, features include variable optical power tuning from +8 to +16 dBm, a linewidth of 100 kHz, user-defined optical frequency channel enabling Flex-grid or Gridless architecture, a fine-tuning frequency range of ±6 GHz, and a power consumption of 3.5W. Availability will be in the second half of 2015. For a datasheet, visit http://www.avagotech.com/pages/en/fiber_optics/optical_components/photonic_ic_components/afcu-uitlaxx
