MEMSIC Introduces Low-Power Dual-Axis Magnetic Sensor

ANDOVER, MA /BUSINESS WIRE/ -- MEMSIC Inc., a leading MEMS solution provider, combining proprietary MEMS technology with advanced mixed signal processing and system solutions, announced the release of its new low-profile dual-axis magnetic sensor, the MMC212xMR, which will enable the integration of digital compass functionality into a broad range of industrial, consumer, and mobile handset applications.

MEMSIC's new MMC212xMR integrates two-axis magnetic sensors and electronic circuits, resulting in an easy to use solution for system designers It uses the same anisotropic magnetoresistive technology as MEMSIC's MMC2120XM magnetic sensor product, but the MMC212xMR is packaged in a significantly smaller package (3 by 3 by 1 mm), which is important to board space–critical applications, such as mobile handsets.

The MMC212xMR works with MEMSIC's Intelligent Heading Correction (IHC) library of auto-calibration and dynamic-compensation algorithms to provide industry-leading compass performance. MEMSIC's IHC algorithms enable the compass to establish and maintain an accurate heading with normal use and without rigorous procedures for manually calibrating the device. These capabilities lead to a more robust and user-friendly solution, providing the end user with much more accurate heading information.

The MMC212xMR draws only 0.55 mA of current, making it one of the most power-efficient dual-axis magnetic sensors, and it is highly suitable for power-sensitive designs. The MMC212xMR is ideally suited for applications such as mobile handsets, personal navigation devices, and sports watches.

Pricing for the product starts at $1.90 per unit for 1000 units.
