The VN-100 Rugged from VectorNav Technologies LLC, Dallas, TX, is an aluminum-encased version of its VN-100 surface-mount orientation sensor and is suited for use in robotics, manned and unmanned vehicles, military and maritime applications, camera and platform stabilization, mining, and surveying. The 33 by 26 by 9 mm, 13 g orientation/inertial sensor incorporates a 9-axis suite of factory-calibrated MEMS accelerometers, gyroscopes, and magnetometers and provides accuracies better than 0.5° in pitch and roll and 2° in heading. Each sensor is individually calibrated for bias, scale factor, and misalignment errors. The company also offers an improved version of its sensor fusion algorithm that runs on the device and lets the sensors output real-time, accurate orientation estimates and inertial measurements.
