IEPER, Belgium, -- Automotive specialist Melexis, has added to its portfolio of devices supporting the local interconnect network (LIN) bus. The new MLX80030, which comes in a compact SOIC8 package, is the third member of the company's next generation of system basis ICs that enable simple and effective development of LIN slaves. Pin-to-pin compatible with established LIN devices, such as the ATA6623/29 and TJA1028, this IC combines a physical layer LIN transceiver (according to LIN 2.x and SAEJ2602) with a 3.3 V voltage regulator that has a RESET output for the system microcontroller.
Based on a 0.35 µm HV-CMOS process technology, this transceiver is optimized for very low current operation, so that it draws only 15 µA while in standby mode. The integrated standby management function allows it to initiate 'wake up' from the LIN bus itself or directly from a connected microcontroller (or other external source). By generating a RESET output signal, the external circuitry necessary for the microcontroller can be reduced.
The MLX80030 delivers the electro-magnetic compatibility (EMC) required for single-wire bus systems. For self-protection, the IC is equipped with an integrated load current limitation and over temperature shutdown, as well as 40 V load dump protection. Its electrostatic discharge (ESD) characteristics allow it to deal with direct discharges of >20 kV and indirect discharges of >15 KV (in accordance with IEC61000-4-2).
