Passenger vehicle wheel force transducer for high load requirements
The heart of each Kistler measuring system is the high-precision sensor. The new RoaDyn P109 torque-measurement wheel was designed specifically for measurements with very high load requirements. We took into account load requirements ranging from modern crossover vehicles to roomy SUVs and high-performance cars. It relies on the unique piezo technology, delivering extremely precise measurements of even the smallest torques during tests of vehicle dynamics and handling as well as power-train analyses, even under high dynamic loads. The piezo-electric sensors used show no signs of wear, have a nearly constant sensitivity over a broad temperature range and have very high stiffness. The piezo sensors thus allow a choice between two independent measuring ranges – with full resolution in each.
Reliable wireless data transmission
The innovative KiRoad Wireless P1 data transfer system features synchronous transmission via WLAN. Each KiRoad Wireless system builds its own encrypted WLAN network so that parallel tests can be conducted with multiple systems at the same time. "With this development, we've raised transfer technology to a new level of reliability and user-friendliness. This enables us to minimize the user's set-up times before tests," says Dr. Jakub Vidner, Product Manager at Kistler.
Fast installation and user-optimized operation
In vehicle tests, users can focus on the actual test to be conducted rather than on the preparatory installation. Because of the high transmission range of its strong WLAN signal, the new KiRoad Wireless P1 operates with no need for an additional reception antenna. "In the past, you had to attach external reflecting antennas or external reception antennas, mounted on a truck chassis using many meters of cables, in close proximity to the wheel force transducer. With the KiRoad Wireless P1, these time-intensive steps are omitted," explains Vidner. "Now, it's: install on-board electronics in the cab, the wheel module on the drive axle – and the transmission link is ready to go!"
Ready for the future with DTI technology
Combined with the new DTI Logger, only a single additional cable is needed to connect the on-board electronics to the data collection unit. The use of Kistler DTI technology also provides for an efficient and fast test set-up. A single cable now permits configuration of the sensors, transmission and synchronization of measurement data, as well as the power supply. Automatic sensor recognition using TEDS makes configuration even easier. The KiCenter (Kistler measurement software) automatically recognizes calibration values and relevant physical quantities, which can be configured on the software. This guarantees the highest process security and time efficiency. "We particularly appreciate the fact that the KiRoad Wireless P1 measuring system, combined with the DTI Logger, saves time at the application stage, freeing our customers up to focus on their actual task: high-precision measurement," Jakub Vidner emphasizes.
