MFxM magnetic proximity switches from Baumer Ltd., Southington, CT, detect magnetic fields over distances up to 60 mm and can be used in applications where the target is behind a wall of ferromagnetic metal, such as SS or aluminum. The switches are available with either compact 8 by 8 mm rectangular housings or standard M8 housings. You can use the switches to replace inductive sensors in applications with long sensing distances or where metal parts influence the inductive sensor's ability to detect magnetic fields. Applications include agricultural equipment, cranes, and lifting vehicles.
