SANTA BARBARA, CA /MARKET WIRE/ -- MachineTalker Inc., developer of smart wireless security networks and tracking systems, announced that it has acquired the rights to package and interconnect a uniquely inexpensive sensor for measuring liquids in storage or mobile tanks. The company plans to manage the signals from the patented measuring device for analysis and dissemination into a wireless mesh network for remote access and control.
Mr. Hugh McGookin, the holder of this and several other patents covering different means of measuring liquid volume, has licensed the company to include his measuring device as a new product in MachineTalker's family of intelligent sensors for remote and unattended applications.
According to Roland F. Bryan, MachineTalker's CEO, "Our first application of McGookin's device, the Levelease, will be to report on the contents and the amount of liquid cargo in railroad tank cars."
The Levelease will provide the height of liquid, and the MachineTalker, connected to the Levelease, will calculate the volume and then wirelessly report on and store the information. In addition, the Talker will keep all other relevant information about the liquid, such as what it is, who owns it, where it is going, and when it was loaded. Talkers can even store procedural information for use during an emergency.
"This will be our initial and crucial foothold in the railroad industry, which is an ideal application for our Talker technology. Railroads, like many other industries that are focused on safely moving massive amounts of cargo, realize that they must be able to track the whereabouts of all of their containers and their contents," concluded Bryan.
MachineTalker Inc., founded in 2002, has developed a breakthrough technology—smart security networks that allow governments, businesses, and individuals to rapidly deploy wireless security and tracking systems to protect people, places, and things. The company's proprietary technology embodies innovative features in the networking of intelligent devices that form "communities" for shared processing and reporting of data in remote security and control applications.
