Lucent Technologies Awarded Secure Border Contract

MURRAY HILL, NJ /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Lucent Technologies announced it is a participant on an industry team led by The Boeing Company that has been awarded a contract by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) under its Secure Border Initiative (SBI) program. The contract for the department's technology component of the program, called SBInet, will be performed over a three-year period, with three one-year options.

The Boeing SBInet team will create and deploy a solution that will significantly improve the availability of information and tools to Border Patrol agents so they can better detect, identify, classify, and resolve illegal border activity by those who pose a threat to the U.S.

"We are pleased to have Lucent and Bell Labs play an important role by providing their expertise, technology, and critical communications services to Boeing and our partners in the effort to help DHS secure, strengthen, and defend our U.S. borders," said Wayne Esser, Boeing SBInet capture team lead.
