Low-Power 125 Msps ADCs from Linear Technology

The LTC2145 family of 14- and 12-bit ADCs from Linear Technology Corp., Milpitas, CA, have conversion speeds from 25 Msps to 125 Msps and dissipate <1 mW/Msps from a 1.8 V supply. The family includes 2-channel simultaneous sampling, parallel-output ADCs, with a choice of full-rate CMOS, double-data-rate (DDR) CMOS, or DDR LVDS digital outputs with programmable digital output timing; programmable LVDS output current; and optional LVDS output termination. At 25 Msps the 14- and 12-bit versions of the LTC2140 consume 24 mW/channel while the 125 Msps LTC2145 consumes 95 mW/channel. The ADCs achieve >73.2 dB SNR with 90 dB SFDR at baseband (14-bits) and SNR better than 70.6 dB (12-bits). Applications include handheld test and instrumentation, radar/LIDAR, medical imaging, PET/SPECT scanners, military radios, and smart antenna systems.
