Low-Cost Avalanche Photodiode Resides In M1 Package

LASER COMPONENTS’ cost-effective SAH series avalanche photodiodes (APDs) is now available in an M1 package. This is reportedly the smallest available SMD housing, measuring 2 mm x 1.4 mm. Optimized for wavelengths of 850 nm and 905 nm, the components are primarily designed for range finding applications in which larger detectors cannot be installed due to lack of space. Consumer products are another common field of application.

Depending on the version, the diameter of the detector area is 230 μm or 500 μm. Like the SAH versions in M2 and M2F packages, these APDs feature low noise and a particularly short response time as well as operating temperatures between -40°C and +85°C. More details are ripe for the picking from the SAH series datasheet.
