Lockheed Martin, Savi Demo Item Tracking Capability

SACRAMENTO, CA -- In response to growing customer demand for an integrated Automated Identification Technology (AIT) solution, Lockheed Martin [NYSE: LMT] and Savi are demonstrating a complete supply chain visibility solution at the UID and eBusiness Forum in Sacramento.

The pilot solution for the demonstration integrates Lockheed Martin's I-GUIDES and Savi's SmartChain software products to "connect the dots" as Item Unique Identification (IUID) and Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) data is created and shared across enterprises for true and complete automated asset visibility. Savi is a wholly owned subsidiary of Lockheed Martin.

The strategic interface between the two flagship software products enables supply chain owners and customers to seamlessly identify high-value items and spare parts using IUID concepts supported by I-GUIDES and then track those items using RFID and the SmartChain asset visibility and management solution.

The demonstration scenario includes the Unique Identification of critical items and embedded sub-assemblies that were shipped with a DoD-compliant passive RFID label, and loaded into a mock container where the full tag and data nesting structure was tracked with sensor enabled active RFID provided by Savi Technology. The Savi SmartChain platform, which is used by defense forces worldwide, transforms real-time data feeds from all types of AIT devices into actionable logistics information.

"The seamless integration of IUID and RFID data provides actionable asset management information and realizes the strategic value envisioned by these DoD initiatives," noted Lou Kratz, Lockheed Martin's vice president of Logistics and Sustainment. "Lockheed Martin I-GUIDES and Savi SmartChain have shown integrated identification and tracking for complete asset management."
