COLOGNE, Germany /PRNewswire/ -- LIOS Technology GmbH, a leader in affordable, cost-effective distributed temperature-sensing (DTS) systems in oil and gas exploration, announces the award of a 5-year contract from a major operator in the Far East. The contract was awarded after a successful 2-year field evaluation period for the supply of DTS for downhole monitoring deployments at onshore wells.
LIOS Technology's sophisticated DTS systems offer the unique ability to provide a reliable, nonintrusive means of continuous temperature logging of wells in oil and gas exploration, enabling full coverage of complex and multilateral wells with a single optical-fiber cable. The LIOS DTS continuously monitors the temperature of an optic fiber at all points along its entire length.
For this contract, LIOS Technology teamed up with and operates closely with an optical pressure-sensing company and a major local service company.
LIOS Technology GmbH is the first DTS supplier with an approved WITSML data interface. The petrotechnical protocol standard WITSML ensures compatible data streams on the TCP/IP level of distributed temperature profiles, backscattering profiles, and event data. LIOS offers its DTS systems with integrated protocol converters, technologies to safely transfer data and enable its integration into customized database structures.
The petroleum engineers in the office can monitor the status of their wells live on their computer screens.
Thomas Oldemeyer, Chief Executive Officer of LIOS Technology, commented, "This successful assessment of our system is a testament to the reliability, accuracy, and durability of our products. These DTS systems provide a practical and cost-effective solution to monitor the downhole status of production wells in some of the most vital petro hubs in the world."
Daan van Laar, Key Account Manager of LIOS Technology added, "The value of the online data enables rapid intervention benefiting directly in project economics. Installing our DTS increases well and reservoir surveillance, adding up to the economical value of new projects."
LIOS Technology GmbH will be exhibiting product highlights at the Houston Offshore Technology Conference 2008, Houston, May 5–8, German Pavilion No. 4716.
