Light-to-Voltage Converters from TAOS

Texas Advanced Optoelectronic Solutions (TAOS) Inc., Plano, TX, offers the TSL2562 and TSL2563 light-to-digital converters that combine a visible light-blocking photodiode with a broadband photodiode on a single CMOS IC, allowing the device to measure ambient light levels from 0.1–40,000 lux. Dynamic range is 20 bits with 16-bit resolution without using an expensive filter. The TSL2562 converts the photodiode currents to an SMBus digital output representing the irradiance measured on each channel while the TSL2563 converts it to an I²C output. Output data can be input to a microprocessor to calculate ambient light level. The TSL2562 permits an SMB-alert style interrupt while the TSL2563 supports a traditional-style interrupt.
