LG V30 Puts Its Focus On The Lens

Whenever cameras, particularly those found in smartphones are discussed, the talk nearly always gravitates to the image sensor. High resolution figures, HD levels, light sensitivity, are the topics tossed around. Not too often do you hear mention of what some think is a little piece of glass that protects the camera’s innards: the lens.

LG seems to have taken the lenses a bit more seriously for the camera in its LG V30, the latest iteration of the company's V series smartphones. The unit is said to employ the first F1.6 aperture camera lens and the first glass Crystal Clear Lens.

The F1.6 aperture lets in more light, yielding brighter pictures. Working in conjunction with the glass Crystal Clear Lens, images are significantly clearer and colors more vibrant than when taken through plastic lenses. A second lens is a 13-Mpixel wide angle lens exhibiting two-thirds less edge distortion than the previous V20 smartphone. Naturally, these qualities translate across both still-frame and video domains.

They say that sometimes the simplest approach yields the greatest results, in this case improving and upgrading the lenses. If you translate that approach to larger and more critical use cameras, the results can be outstanding for applications that go far beyond selfies and social media posts. These include industrial, IoT, medical and machine vision units, surveillance, and others. The possibilities are many; it’s just a matter balancing the budgets.

The V30 offers a stellar array of other features, which you can easily acquire from the company’s website.
