Lean Lab Guide Reduces Waste

METTLER TOLEDO now offers a guide with the “8 Waste” methodology of lean management principles. The guide focuses on lab processes, providing a useful way to identify non-value adding or unnecessary steps in routine workflows. It hopes to provide lab operators and managers with a concrete methodology for identifying time- and resource-wasting lab efforts. Reportedly, this will help optimize routine workflows such as buffer preparation, batch release, and other common activities. According to the acronym "DOWNTIME", the eight wastes are:

  2. Over-production
  3. Waiting time
  4. Not engaging all employees
  5. Transportation
  6. Inventory
  7. Motion/distances
  8. Extra-processing
