SUNNYVALE, CA /Marketwire/ -- Leadis Technology Inc., an analog and mixed-signal semiconductor developer of color display drivers, power management ICs, LED drivers, audio ICs, and touch controllers for mobile consumer electronic devices, announced sample availability of the LDS6003, LDS6005, LDS6023, LDS6025, and LDS6028—five new members of the PureTouch family of low-power controllers designed for capacitive touch applications. Targeted at both mobile and non-mobile applications, the devices support a variety of touch input types, including buttons, sliders, and scroll wheels.
The new products augment the PureTouch portfolio by offering additional choices in the number of touch sensor input channels. The LDS6003 and LDS6005 offer 6 and 10 touch sensor inputs, respectively, providing lower channel options compared with the 15 offered by the LDS6000. The LDS6023, LDS6025, and LDS6028 offer 6, 10, and 15 touch sensor inputs, respectively, with at least half of the channels dual-configurable as either touch sensors or LED drivers. As with the previously introduced 13-channel LDS6020, each LED driver may be associated with an individual touch sensor, enabling closed-loop (no-host) activation of keypad LEDs when a touch event occurs. Smooth visual transitions are facilitated by 32-step dimming at the 8 mA maximum current level.
All members of the PureTouch family are optimized for low-power operation at 1.8 V, consuming < 200 µW in full-power mode, enabling implementation of capacitive touch inputs in portable devices without the need for low-power modes that introduce first-touch latencies. Integrated features include strongest touch selection to prevent inadvertent touches, thresholds individually programmed to empower customers in optimizing end-product touch sensitivity according to individual preferences, and automatic ambient compensation, which automatically optimizes touch responsiveness according to environmental changes, such as humidity and temperature.

The LDS6003 and LDS6005 are programmable touch controllers for use with capacitive sensor arrays, implementing touch-based input controls, including sliders, scroll wheels, and buttons. Featuring six sensor inputs (LDS6003) or 10 sensor inputs (LDS6005), these devices provide fast update rates of 2 ms per sensor input, with on-chip automatic calibration logic continuously monitoring the environment to adjust ambient baseline levels to increase touch accuracy.
The devices operate with a 1.8 V supply voltage and consume <200 µW of power in full-power mode. Both SPI-compatible and I2C-compatible interfaces are supported with a general-purpose I/O and interrupt output for additional communication with the host processor. Both devices are packaged in 4 mm by 4 mm 28ld TQFN packages, with maximum thickness of 0.8 mm.
About the LDS6023, LDS6025, and LDS6028
The LDS6023, LDS6025, and LDS6028 are programmable touch controllers with integrated keypad LED drivers for use with capacitive sensor arrays, implementing touch-based input controls, including sliders, scroll wheels, and buttons. Featuring six sensor inputs (LDS6023), 10 sensor inputs (LDS6025), or 15 sensor inputs (LDS6028), these devices offer fast update rates of 2 ms per sensor input, with on-chip automatic calibration logic continuously monitoring the environment to adjust ambient baseline levels to increase touch accuracy.
Half of the sensor inputs (8 of the 15 in the case of the LDS6028) are configurable as LED drivers capable of driving up to 8 mA of current, with 16 mA available for a single LED by connecting two LED drivers simultaneously. LED dimming can be configured over various transition times, with 32 dimming steps available at maximum current drive. Automatic activation of LED with a valid touch event is achieved by associating an LED driver to a sensor input, alleviating the need for the host processor to turn on the LED.
