Latest Generation of Dual Ultra-Low Dropout Voltage Linear Regulators

SAN JOSE, Calif. /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Micrel Inc., an industry leader in analog, high-bandwidth communications and Ethernet IC solutions, launched a new family of dual ultra-low dropout voltage linear regulators. The MIC5310 is the first in a series of dual LDOs simultaneously offering ultra-low dropout voltage of 35 [email protected] mA, more than 70 db power supply ripple rejection (PSRR), and ultra-low output noise. The part is offered in a 2 mm x 2 mm 8 pin leadless MLF package, making it ideal for today's most demanding portable applications, including cellular phone RF power, camera modules, imaging sensors for digital still and video cameras, PDAs, portable media players, and PC cameras. The IC is available in volume, with pricing starting at $0.60 for 1K quantity. Additional parts are expected to be launched throughout 2006.

"Today's portable applications continue to demand increasingly smaller solution sizes without compromising on specifications or performance," noted Ralf Muenster, Micrel's Director of Marketing for Power Products. "Micrel's new MIC5310 gives engineers significant advantages over solutions currently on the market, particularly in applications where maintaining high PSRR under low-input voltage-to-output voltage conditions is crucial. With its breakthrough performance and diminutive size, this series should set the standard of excellence that others will follow."

The MIC5310 integrates two independently controlled, high-performance LDOs that offer exceptional transient performance while requiring only very small and inexpensive 1 µF ceramic capacitors. Both LDOs feature a low quiescent current of 75 µA per output, a fast turn-on time of 30 µsec, current limit and thermal shutdown protection, and operation from -40°C to 125°C.
