The probe uses compressed air, supplied through the spindle of the machine tool, to power a turbine wheel inside the probe. The turbine wheel generates electrical energy through changes in the magnetic field, which is stored in high-power capacitors. The probe can operate for 2 min. with fully charged capacitors; charging time varies depending on pressure. An optical sensor generates the trigger signal.
