iF DESIGN AWARD 2015: Award-winning ergologistics from item

Solingen -- item wins the iF DESIGN AWARD for the 15th time: The new material picking system won over 53 judges with its form and function and is the basis for item ergologistics - a synthesis of ergonomics and intralogistics.

Breaking down barriers at transition points ensures that operators can restock with parts quickly and efficiently. It also supports cutting-edge industrial production practices at work benches that are just as efficient as they are convenient for personnel. Ergonomics is worth it - after all, that is the secret to adapting production environments to suit personnel of all ages and physical needs.

However, there is no one product that can deliver ergonomics on its own. All the interfaces need to slot into place to achieve optimum results. In fact, the end-to-end ergologistics process chain stretches from transporting goods and small parts right through to their manual processing.

Small improvements with a big effect

One example is the range of flat and sturdy Tray Stop Profiles for semi-open fronted boxes. When this item solution is fitted in place, crates with stacking edges jut out over the profile a little, thereby creating a seamless transition for small parts as they are filled into the Grab Containers mounted in front. The item Grab Containers can also be easily removed and placed close to hand on the working surface. As a result, all personnel can select the most comfortable picking configuration for the job they are currently doing. This improves both ergonomics and efficiency, since optimised work benches speed up working processes and drive down illness rates.

The Work Bench System with the seal of approval

The material picking system is part of the item Work Bench System, which is built consistently around ergonomic principles. As a result, the item Work Bench System has been awarded the AGR seal of approval by Aktion Gesunder Rücken e. V. (the Campaign for Healthy Backs), making it the first and only complete system to carry the seal.

The iF DESIGN AWARD 2015 is being presented in Hamburg, Germany, on 27 February 2015.
There were a total of 4,783 submissions from 53 countries. iF Industrie Forum Design e.V. has been celebrating pioneering products since 1953. item won its first award in 1986 for the MB Building Kit System, which is still the basis for the item Work Bench System.
