Humidity/Temperature Sensors Consume Little Power

Humidity/Temperature Sensors Consume Little Power

Heralded as the market’s “most energy friendly, easiest-to-use humidity sensors, Silicon Labs’ Si701x/2x family of relative humidity and temperature sensors combine a standard CMOS mixed-signal IC with a reliable technique of measuring humidity using a polymer dielectric film. Using a 3.3V supply voltage and delivering an eight-bit resolution, the Si701x/2x sensors consume just 1.9 µW average when taking one sample per second, reportedly six times lower than comparable RH sensors. They maintain ±3% RH maximum accuracy over a 0 to 80% range of humidity and a ±0.4°C maximum temperature accuracy over a -10°C to +85 °C temperature range. Additionally, long-term RH drift is less than 0.25% RH per year. Available in 3 mm x 3 mm QFN packages, pricing for Si701x/2x RH sensors begins at $2.13 each in 10,000-unit quantities.
